It is largely geared towards my middle aged (or older) compatriots, although many products would be applicable to a wide age range. Also, but not overwhelmingly, the emphasis will be more focused on men’s health. We’ll cover the 4 pillars of wellness: physical activity, nutriments (diet and dietary supplements), adequate sleep, and mental fitness (mood, emotional state of mind and brain health).
I have researched alternative health topics and lifestyle strategies for a long time and have a graduate degree in a biological field. Unfortunately this knowledge in itself wasn’t enough to produce results. Consistent action over time is necessary. My lack of fitness and realization of advancing age finally caught up to me and motivated me to take consistent action, apply the strategies I have been researching. I knew that if I let myself continue to decline, illness may set in, and it would become even more difficult to recapture a good level of wellness. I became determined to achieve my highest level of fitness since my youth, and live a lifestyle that is conducive to continue enhancing my health.
Situation at 56 years old: overweight on all measures, nearing obese on waist/height ratio, diagnosed with fatty liver, suffering severe snoring, drinking alcohol daily, high stress, moderate depression and anxiety. Feeling a sense of urgency to get myself in a better physical and mental place, I initially embarked on various diets to lose weight quickly. While this produced some results, it was not the right approach for me. Quick fixes tend to be short lived, and may cause unwanted additional consequences. Long term, consistent, moderate action is the best way to lasting change. At the time of initially publishing this, I have lost 23 lbs, over 7% body fat, over 4″ from waist, gained some lean mass, have almost entirely eliminated snoring, have eliminated alcohol, have more energy and generally just feel better & younger. This is a moderate pace or improvement, and I still have a ways to go to reach my goals, but progress has been steady, and is something I can enjoy and maintain long term. Without feeling deprived or missing out on anything. I feel like I am aging backwards. An old dog with a new lease on life. Feeling more energetic, looking younger, stronger, healthier, happier, and having fun.
